On our first working day in Butuo, my mom and my aunt stayed behind to rest. The rest of us traveled to Jizhi ( 基只 ) to check the construction progress of the school there.

After we got back to Butuo, we visited the Butuo Secondary school to re-inspect the large Grade 7-9 building Sowers helped build in 2005; then we interviewed 10 Grade 10 students receiving Sowers' scholarship. Finally, we visited the home of one of the students.

Breakfast was at a restaurant on the main street in Butuo.

Rice vermicelli and dumplings, again.

House are made with mud walls here.

Cold, high and dry. But the hills have gentler slopes here.

Lots of terraced fields.

The hills in the back are in Zhaojue county (昭覺縣). In between is the Xixihe (西溪河) valley.

It's about 90 minutes on a road like this to Jizhi.

We pulled into Jizhi and met our lunch. I am serious.
