2015-9-8 Day One of our 6-day trip to the Manu National Park in the Amazon with Wild Watch Peru. We had Simon as our guide, and Jesus a young bird-expert also with us, along with a cook.
Went over a couple of mountain passes to get to Manu with stops at Ninamarca and Paucartambo. Overnight at Tambo Paititi, a 10min hike up San Pedro Creek at around 1,500m/4,900ft.
5am start for very long travel day
Stopping along Trans-Oceanic Hwy just SE of Cusco to get a huge bag of bread for the next 6 days
Smart place to sit on a chilly morning
Wari/Huari ruins near outside Huacarpay, where we left the Trans-Oceanic Hwy and turned north
Crossing the Urubamba River in the Sacred Valley at around 3,100m/10,100ft
Starting the climb towards Ninamarca
