8/27 - Headed inland on CA299 inland towards Redding, with a visit to the Shasta Dam.
8/28 - Lassen Volcanic National Park & Burney Falls.
Leaving the coast, we headed east on CA299.
Formed by the Whiskeytown Dam (1963).
Shasta State Historical Park. A ghost town from the Gold Rush.
Shasta Dam across the Sacramento River.
Construction started 1938 and completed 1945.
602ft/183m tall and 3,460ft/1,050m in length. 9th tallest in the US.
Shasta Lake is largest man-made lake in CA.
After overnighting in Redding, we visited Lassen Volcanic National Park next day.
