Long 11 hour day, with 1442m/4,731ft of vertical difference each way.

Ichinose 市ノ瀬, where we parked our car. Need to ride shuttle on weekends.

500yen for the 6km ride to the trailhead at Bettodeai 別当出合.

We were at the bottom left.

Same trailhead for two separate routes. We went left, and came back via the bridge.

0722 start 1260m/4,134ft. Bridge of the Saboshindo 砂防新道. We would come back that way.

Finally past the first (and very hard) section of the Kankoshindo 観光新道 in the forest.

Interior of the shelter hut.

After a long 20-minute break, going up again.

Heading up this area called Masagozaka Slope 真砂坂.
