Back to civilization and first shower in 3 days when we got back to Shigatse (日喀則). Enroute, we made a long stop at Jiding (吉定), where there is a festival going on. We had beer among lots of locals in their most beautiful clothings.
Leaving Saga, we followed a tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo, going east.
First part is still gravel, but it would be over soon.
Approaching a no-name pass that's over 5,000m/16,400ft.
A very plateau of over 4,900m/16,100ft.
Little village called "22nd Dao Ban" (22道班). Dao Ban means road crew.
Pavement begins!
Beautifully built road, but red- and white-painted stones act as reflectors.
Shiny guardrails.
Hazards still exist at any corner.
Lots of trucks hauling construction material west.
These trucks crawled up to the 4,900m/16,080ft Jie-La Pass (結拉山口).
