We left Mahu to inspect a new school building in Shuanghekou Township (雙河口鄉), and to re-inspect an older classroom building donated in 2004.

Clean but spartan room at Tianhu Hotel.

Squat toilet only.

Mahu calls itself the 3rd largest alpine lake in China. I have some doubts.

Very quiet and beautiful early in the morning.

This one taken a little later.

We were only guests at the hotel.

Local kids heading to school.

Restaurant/Lobby of our hotel.

Steamed buns for breakfast.

And rice vermicelli, a stable.

We had this for breakfast every day. Cantonese call it "Fishy Herb" (魚腥草).

Stem of a vegetable usually preserved (搾菜), but is prepared fresh here.

We had several of their most famous dishes the night before.

Heading down from Mahu. It was dark when we arrived night before.

A series of switchback road along a cliff goes down from 1,200m/3,900ft to 400m/1,300ft.

We turned off the old highway for a short cut...

And we went through a series of new tunnels still under construction.
