Took the AMTRAK Coast Starlight from LA to San Francisco (Oakland to be more specific) for a short trip to meet some friends. Stayed at the Grand Hyatt at Union Square, and visited the Japanese Tea Garden and DeYoung Museum in Golden State Park. I flew back.
Shot with the 17-55IS and Tokina 11-16.
Boarding the Coast Starlight on Platform 10 at LA Union Station.
Some vintage cars at rainy LAUS.
Two P42 locomotives, baggage car, 3 sleeper cars and parlor car in view.
Very spacious seating.
My coach (the only one of three without AC power) was very empty.
View from the rear of the train. Between Oxnard and Santa Barbara.
CA1 just south of Santa Barbara. Pretty high surf.
Dining car. At Santa Barbara.
Communal seating only. That mom and son had been traveling back from NYC.
Reminded me of a scene from my favorite movie "Before Sunrise".
Central Coast farmland just south of San Luis Obispo.
San Luis Obispo.
The seat could have more recline.
2-hour delay at SLO to fix the train whistle, as day turned to night.
