Following the Urubamba River and railway to viewpoint for Patallacta/Llaqtapata, then turn south up the Cusichaca River for a late lunch. A short hike up to overnight camp at Wayllabamba (~2,900m/9,510ft). Total distance: 12km; trek time: 4:45.

Footbridge across the Urubamba River marking the start

Checkpoint for hikers. Porters are checked nearby.

We waited for an hour as there was a permit problem with one of our porters

Finally at 1115a - crossing the Urubamba River and the head west on the south bank

Railway down to Aguas Calientes on the north bank

Qanabamba - first set of ruins on opposite bank

Flat hike but very strong sun. Also, our companions very fast walkers.
